JAKARTA (TimesofIDN) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has opened the possibility of summoning former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, in connection with an investigation into alleged corruption in the procurement of Google Cloud services at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek).
“All possibilities are open,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo during a statement at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta, as reported by Media Indonesia on Wednesday (30/7). He explained that the KPK would call individuals believed to have critical information about the details of the procurement case.
On the same day, Fiona Handayani, a former special staff member to the Minister of Education, appeared at the KPK office to provide testimony. According to internal KPK records, Fiona arrived at 09:19 WIB and left around 17:46 WIB.
The KPK is currently conducting a preliminary investigation into alleged irregularities in the use of Google Cloud services at Kemendikbudristek.
The case remains in the investigative stage, with no suspects yet named. The KPK has clarified that this investigation is not directly related to the Chromebook procurement case currently being handled by the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung).
Additionally, the KPK is probing alleged irregularities in the procurement of free internet quotas at Kemendikbudristek, also linked to Google Cloud services. Meanwhile, the Kejagung is investigating a corruption case involving the ministry’s education digitalization program from 2019 to 2022, specifically related to Chromebook procurement.
The Kejagung has named four suspects: Jurist Tan (former special staff to the Minister), Ibrahim Arief (former technology consultant), Sri Wahyuningsih (former Director of Elementary Schools at Kemendikbudristek 2020–2021), and Mulyatsyah (former Director of Junior High Schools at Kemendikbudristek 2020–2021).
