JAKARTA (TimesofIDN) – South Korea’s Presidential Office announced on Thursday (31/7/2025) that the reciprocal tariff initially set by the United States at 25% starting August 1 has been negotiated down to 15%. This rate is lower than the 19% tariff imposed on Indonesia, which comes with additional trade conditions.
Kim Yong-beom, Head of Policy at South Korea’s Presidential Office, stated that South Korea’s rice and beef markets will not be further opened to U.S. products due to food security concerns, as reported by CNBC Indonesia.
The agreement was announced shortly after a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and South Korean officials at the White House, part of a series of trade policy announcements ahead of the August 1 deadline set by the Trump administration.
